Evolution vs. Intelligent Design
David Martin | The Daily Knight
Pope Francis made waves in October 2014 when he told the Pontifical Academy of Sciences that evolution and the “big bang” theory do not contradict the dogma of creation.
“The Big Bang, which today is held as the beginning of the world, does not contradict the intervention of the divine creator, but requires it,” he said. “Evolution in nature is not at odds with the notion of creation because evolution requires the creation of beings that evolve.”
The problem is that God did not create beings that evolve. What Francis is advocating is the idea of “theistic evolution,” the fallacy that God guides evolution, but God did not create evolution.
The theory of evolution was created by Charles Darwin (1809-1882), a Freemason and atheist who was committed to denying Genesis and dehumanizing mankind. His theories as proposed in his On the Origin of Species concern the evolution of species from one to the next, i.e. fish to monkeys, moneys to man, for which there exists no evidence in nature.
Supporters of theistic evolution argue that the discoveries of science in nature do not contradict creation. This indeed is true if something factual is discovered in nature, but evidence supporting evolution is not among these discoveries.
In his article, The Traditional Catholic Doctrine of Creation, Hugh Owen nicely sums up the grotesque error of theistic evolution.
"Theistic evolution holds that all kinds of creatures evolved long before man evolved, that there never was a perfectly complete and harmonious creation in the beginning, and that God ordained that hundreds of millions of years of death, deformity, negative mutations, and disease should exist on earth before the first human beings evolved from sub-human primates." https://www.kolbecenter.org/the-traditional-catholic-doctrine-of-creation/
The obvious error with theistic evolution is that “death, deformity, negative mutations, and disease” in the world are the result of the Original Sin of our first parents who came after the animals. How is it that our “sub-human primates” suffered illness before man could come along to engender it with his disobedience?
Infallible Teaching on the Origin of Life
It suffices to say that evolution is science fiction, there existed no prehistoric life. The Biblical Book of Genesis 1-11 gives us a clear, precise account of the origin of the world, leaving no room to change, delete, or to add to what has been written. The Council of Trent and Vatican Council I both taught that no one is permitted to interpret Sacred Scripture “contrary to the unanimous agreement of the Fathers.”
The Fathers and Doctors of the Church unanimously agreed that Genesis 1-11 is an infallible and literal historical account of the beginning of the world and the human species as recorded by the prophet Moses under divine inspiration.
For the first five centuries of the Church, all the Fathers believed and proclaimed:
· that less than 6,000 years had passed from the creation of the world to the birth of Jesus
· that the creation of the cosmos took place in six 24-hour days or in an instant of time
· that God created the different kinds of living things instantly and immediately
· that Adam was created from the dust of the earth and Eve from his side
· that God ceased to create new kinds of creatures after the creation of Adam
· that the Original Sin of Adam and Eve shattered the perfect harmony of the first-created world and brought human death, deformity, and disease into the world.
Holy Writ makes it clear that God instantaneously created the world out of nothing and that all peoples descended from Adam and Eve, who had no antecedents. To profess that the universe was initially set in motion through a “big bang” and that man evolved out of the ensuing chaos denies Genesis, and as such, is heresy.
Evolution Alienates Man From God
Evolution was designed to alienate man from God and is tied with Nietzsche’s idea that man evolved from the apes and is on his way to becoming a self-deified superman. It has effectively plunged man into the worst identity crisis of history where we see man evolving away from God and forgetting his genesis as he relates more and more to “aliens,” four-footed beasts, the planet, and the devil himself. For while we were created in the image of God, man today is assuming more and more the image of the beast. Society has grown horns as it were.
Accordingly, Darwin was praised by Karl Marx, the Satanist and father of world Communism who went on record as saying that Darwin’s ideas on the biological processes of change formed a major foundation for his own work to incite world revolution (change) against the Church.
Tied With Modernism
Evolution indeed is tied with the heresy of modernism that maintains that whatever the Church holds to at any given point of its history is merely the result of a common consensus, so that as the consensus changes with time so the Church’s teachings change. Modernism denies divinely revealed absolutes and advocates the idea that man is free to develop according to his own laws. Consider Francis’ words:
“He [God] created human beings and let them develop according to the internal laws that he gave to each one so they would reach their fulfillment.”
This suggests the modernist idea that Christ initially set the Church in motion without any set rule and allowed it to whimsically evolve according to the “internal laws” of man.
Teilhard de Chardin Alive and Kicking
Since Vatican II, we have seen an attempted fusion of Evolution with Catholicism, which is what Teilhard de Chardin was all about. His work to integrate the theory of evolution with Catholicism helped spawn the modern-day notion that the Catholic Church is an ongoing, evolutionary process that goes through phases of change over time, which of course is false. Monkeys do not grow out of fish, people do not grow out of monkeys, and modernism does not grow out of Apostolic Tradition. What God has established from the beginning, whether spiritual or physical, remains, and does not change. 1
Unfortunately, today’s scientists wrestle with this, seeing in nature evidence of evolution that is no evidence. For instance, archeologists might discover a small skeleton in India measuring only 48 inches and then use this conclude that early man was linked to small monkey-like creatures, when what they discovered in fact was the skeletal remains of a Pigmy who had died in his adolescence.
Nature is miserably misinterpreted by the science community. For instance, a cat gives milk, and so does a human mother, so science lumps them in the same category and calls them "mammals." But who in Heaven ever said this? This is a categorization of science, not of God. Or a dog has two eyes, two ears, and a nose, and so does a man, therefore science concludes that they’re both related, when in fact there is no relation.
Intellectual Design
What scientists are failing to recognize is God's intellectual design, namely, that He created the world out of nothing strictly for man's benefit, and for no other reason, and that He made man to His own image. But in His goodness, God created a certain order in nature so that man wouldn't feel entirely alien to his surroundings, which is why animals have things like legs, eyes, and ears, but this doesn’t mean they are related to us. Man is the only creature made in the image of God, which sets him apart from the rest of creation.
Those who mock intellectual design are “vain in their thoughts” (Romans 1:22), for while they blindly refuse to acknowledge “the invisible things of him [God], from the creation of the world,” which “are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made; his eternal power also, and divinity” (Roman 1: 20), they insist on seeing evidence of atheistic evolution in these “things that are made.” They scoff at the Church’s teaching that God created beasts and man on the sixth day of creation – a creation that instantly occurred through God’s omnipotence without any natural process – and that the inhabitants of earth remain today as they were when they were first created.
The Bible says, “The just man lives by faith” (Romans 1:17) and reminds us that “Unless you be converted, and become as little children, you shall not enter into the Kingdom of Heaven.” (Mt. 18:3) Hence to be saved we must humbly confess with the simplicity of a child that God was able to blink the world into existence with no effort.
Pontifical Blasphemy
Pope Francis apparently does not agree, as evidenced by his statement to the Pontifical Academy of Sciences:
“When we read about Creation in Genesis, we run the risk of imagining God was a magician, with a magic wand able to do everything.”
So God is not able to do everything? Is the omnipotent God lacking in something? Who does Francis make God to be?
The pope said, “God is not a divine being,” echoing the blasphemous charge of the Pharisees that Christ was not divine.
Unfortunately, Francis imitates the Pharisees by continually ranting against doctrine, even daring to suggest that the universe could have been set in motion through the “big bang.” Better that he humble himself and glorify his Maker, remembering that “a most severe judgment shall be for them that bear rule.” (Wisdom 6:6)
1. Minus accidental change, which has nothing to do with evolution.
